Tokash_Lauren - Project 3

During Project 3, I had quite an enjoyable time creating my piece. The process to me did not take as much thought as past projects. When I started the bit, I knew in my head I did not want to have clean cuts as in the description, it is a destruction, and that is what I interpret it as. Another thought process I had was that I wanted to intertwine the theme of feathers from Project 2. This helped with my idea of only tearing my paper, giving the edges of my paper a more realistic look. Because I had more negative space than color, I had to be conscious of what I was using. I created almost a base with my negative paper using staples as what I thought would be my main fixative. I later found this fixative to be a bit of a sore to the overall look, so I switched to a glue stick. After the white had laid out my pattern, I strategically placed my limited color I had to work with. I began a pattern that would switch from a sea green to dark color, whether it was dark green or dark blue. Then towards the tip of the feather, I started to transition into a light sea green, while keeping the pattern of switching to dark colors (as showing the purple). I like the effect of white edges around each hair— I feel it gives a bit more depth and dimension. When I was gluing each “hair” as you could call it, I would not glue it flat, but just the base and then layer it with others. Then I attempted to almost fluff it, in hopes to create more shadow. I was not completely sure how my shadow would turn out, but it turned out very wispy around the edges, which I thought was a very interesting detail. Overall, this project was sort of a “destroy, put back together, and see what you get” (even though it did take some thought), and I am content with what I have created.
