Project #1 - Carissa Chacon

For this project, I chose source images that I particularly like; flowers, butterflies, my heritage (flags). I didn't really think of a theme to go along with like most students did. My imagery was scattered, in a way, to the things that I have an interest in. A lot of the pictures that I had chosen happened to be quite large when printed out so that's why in my tracings and even in the final project, that there are so many images cut in half. I first started out with my tracings of the source images, then began to compile them in compositions, and find which compositions (out of 20) that created a pattern and a nice transition for the final project. I think this project came out fairly well. I got a lot of comments on my use of negative and positive space and also the boldness of this project. Even though this was supposed to come out as an accordion book, I had a lot of trouble trying to keep the compositions together. Overall, I liked this project very much and it has changed my view on the usage of ink when drawing and it has taught me how to manipulate something simple such as a light bulb.
